Russia and Germany Close Consulates: Is a New War Starting?

Russia is doing this because of what Germany did first. Last week, on September 1, Germany closed the Russian consulate in the city of Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin.

Why did this big fight start? On August 4, police found a very dangerous drone at the Leipzig airport in Germany. The drone had explosives and was found near a Ukrainian airplane. Germany says that Russian spies put the drone there to attack. Russia says this is a complete lie and an "absurd fabrication".

Because of this event, the leaders are using very strong words. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Germany is "wanting war again" and moving to declare war. On the other side, the German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, said Germany will not budge and will defend its freedom against Russia.

So, many people are asking a big question: Is a real war starting between Russia and Germany, or with the European Union?

In my opinion, the answer is no. I predict we will not see a normal war with soldiers, tanks, and big armies crossing the borders. Both countries know that if they start a real military war, it means fighting all the NATO countries. That is too big and dangerous for everyone.

Instead, I predict we will see more of a "shadow war." The European Union calls this a "hybrid" threat. This means countries fight using secret ways. They will use computer attacks, fake news, and small secret attacks like the drone at the airport.

This is still a very dangerous time. When countries close their consulates, they stop talking to each other. When they stop talking, small mistakes can easily become huge problems. Europe is very tense today. For now, the fight will stay a secret shadow war, but everyone needs to be very careful.
